Job summary

Van Buren Intermediate School District's Community-Based Transition Center in Paw Paw, Michigan, seeks a Program Assistant to support the instructional program aligned with student IEPs. The role collaborates with the classroom teacher to assist students in classroom, community, and employment settings.

Starting immediately, the assistant will help plan and implement activities, supervise students, and help transport them to community activities.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma required.
• Ability to work with post-secondary students (18-26) with varied abilities and disabilities.
• Understand/implement positive behavioral support systems.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with others.
• Demonstrate growth mindset and willingness to learn AAC.
• Maintain objectivity, calmness, and neutrality in diverse situations.
• Provide direct support and supervision in classroom and community settings.
• Assist teacher in planning and implementing instructional activities.
• Adhere to VBISD policies and procedures.
• Model VBISD values: Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Excellence.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher in carrying out instructional program aligned with IEPs.
• Support students in classroom, community, and employment settings.
• Plan and implement instructional activities with the teacher.
• Supervise and transport students to community activities using ISD vehicle.
• Maintain student-centered decisions and timely completion of tasks.
