Job summary

NEICAC is seeking a skilled Mechanic to repair and maintain Transit vehicles across the five-county area. You will perform preventive maintenance, inspect vehicles, read job orders, and use diagnostic tools to identify issues and plan repairs.

This on-site role requires a high school diploma or GED; a CDL with passenger endorsement is preferred. Regular weekday hours with occasional on-call work; travel to assigned worksites as needed; strong safety and compliance mindset.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of related experience and/or training preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, vehicle inspections, and repairs on vehicles and lifts.
• Read vehicle wiring schematics and process job orders, observe devices in operation, and use diagnostic equipment to identify issues and plan work procedures.
• Coordinate vehicle service scheduling with the Transit Office and maintain computerized service records.
• Communicate accurately with staff and train new Drivers on lift operation, wheelchair securement, and pre-trip/post-trip inspections.
• Follow all road rules and safety precautions as directed by NEICAC EARL Public Transit and/or US DOT.
