Job Summary

Pay Rate: SEIU Maintenance Worker III
Hourly rate: $41.06 (Step 76) - $53.67 (Step 99). External candidates will start at Step 76.

Reports To: Variable

Current Assignment: This announcement will be used to establish an eligibility list of qualified candidates. Under general supervision, performs skilled preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, primary and some secondary repair, and modification of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment in revenue vehicles.

Selection Process

This is a SEIU Local 1021 Bargaining unit position. All SEIU members must follow the 'Bid Form Process'; failure to do so will invalidate the application. The process includes minimum qualification screening, and may involve skills/performance tests, written exams, and panel interviews. Outside applicants are considered only after internal candidates.

Examples of Duties
  1. Perform preventive maintenance, testing, and adjustment of electronic and electro-mechanical systems on transit vehicles, including propulsion, train control, brake control, HVAC, annunciation, communications, door control, lighting, and auxiliary electrical systems.
  2. Troubleshoot and perform primary repairs, replacing components to restore revenue service.
  3. Respond to and assess transit vehicle operational problems in the field.
  4. Make field repairs, provide technical information, and perform major repairs after accidents.
  5. Modify electronic and electro-mechanical systems as directed by engineering and supervisory staff.
  6. Suggest improvements and collaborate on modifications.
  7. Use diagnostic equipment and fabricate testing tools as needed.
  8. Perform secondary dismantling and repair, verify system performance, and document work and materials used, following safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate in Science in electronics from an accredited college, Electronics Credential, or equivalent (e.g., military training).

Substitution: Four years of verifiable full-time electronic maintenance experience can substitute for education.

Other Requirements: Adequate color vision, ability to work in confined spaces, lift up to 70 pounds, work weekends, holidays, off-hours, and climb ladders.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of: Basic principles of analog/digital electronics, circuitry, mechanical mechanisms, troubleshooting, and safety practices.

Skills in: Diagnosing and repairing electronic systems, performing preventive maintenance and modifications, reading diagrams, using tools and test equipment, documenting work, and establishing effective relationships.
