Job summary

The City of Fredericksburg, Virginia, is hiring a Transit Security Officer to protect transit properties, staff, customers and the public. You will perform safety and security patrols, respond to incidents, assist riders, enforce rules, and coordinate with law enforcement as needed.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and at least two years in security or law enforcement, plus the ability to operate radios and common software.

What You’ll Do

As a valued member of our Transit team, this role involves performing security and safety duties to protect Transit property, staff, customers, and the public.

Responsibilities include:

• Safety and Security Patrols Patrols are conducted regularly to ensure safety and security, including monitoring traffic, CCTV, and alarms, as well as establishing a presence on buses.
• Incident Response and Reporting Engages with dispatch and management about incidents, addresses complaints and illegal activities, collaborates with law enforcement when needed, investigates, and files timely reports.
• Customer Service and Rule Enforcement Provides assistance and information at transit stations, enforces rules, and addresses complaints and incidents effectively.
• Policy Development and Training Creates policies and training programs, liaises with law enforcement, helps with fare collections, and follows safety protocols and directives from superiors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two (2) years of law enforcement, security or related experience,
• Must be able to operate a radio, tablet/iPad, cellphone, computer, and related software.
• Proficiency in using computer systems and the software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential (ex. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel).

Special Requirements

• High School diploma, vocational/technical diploma, or equivalent training and experience.
• Virginia DCJS approved Security Officer Training with Firearm Certification or the ability to acquire within ninety (90) days of employment
• CPR and First Aid certifications, or the ability to acquire within ninety (90) days of employment.
