Job summary

BRC is seeking an Outreach Specialist for Transit Homeless Outreach in New York City. This field-based role involves engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness, providing hands-on support, and guiding them toward housing and essential services.

The role emphasizes building trust, conducting assessments, and coordinating with partner agencies across boroughs. A strong communicator with a supportive approach and a valid driver’s license is preferred to travel across sites and participate

Qualifications

• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trust and work effectively in the field.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel across boroughs.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compassionate, street-based outreach in transit locations.
• Connect clients to housing, medical, mental health, and substance use services.
• Complete brief assessments, provide escorts, and make referrals.
• Document outreach activity and client interactions.
• Work primarily at high-need areas, including end-of-line stations.
• Collaborate with partner agencies and outreach teams.
