Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking an Outreach Specialist – Transit Homeless Outreach to engage New Yorkers in transit locations and connect them to housing and supportive services. This field-based role requires compassion, reliability, and the ability to travel across boroughs.

You will conduct outreach at key transit sites, document interactions, and coordinate with partner agencies to move individuals toward housing stability and care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across boroughs.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compassionate, street-based outreach in transit locations.
• Connect clients to housing, medical, mental health, and substance use services.
• Complete brief assessments, provide escorts, and make referrals.
• Document outreach activity and client interactions.
• Work primarily at high-need areas, including end-of-line stations.
• Collaborate with partner agencies and outreach teams.
