Job summary

The City of Montebello is seeking an Equipment Mechanic to perform advanced maintenance and repair on buses, trucks, and other heavy equipment. You will diagnose complex issues, overhaul engines, and conduct preventive maintenance to ensure reliability.

Responsibilities include welding, tool handling, and field repairs, with a requirement for California driver’s license and timely license upgrades. This role offers substantial hands-on work both indoors and outdoors.

Qualifications

• Two years of progressively responsible journey-level work experience in maintenance and repair of buses, automotive and heavy equipment.
• Must possess California driver’s license and obtain Class B permit within two weeks, and Class B license within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, locate, and diagnose mechanical defects on City buses, trucks, and other equipment.
• Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, and clutches.
• Tune-up engines, replace ignition parts, and service fuel systems.
• Replace faulty parts including bearings, seals, suspension components, and exhaust systems.
• Perform welding to fabricate parts and fit equipment; intercahnge gas/diesel engines as needed.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and field/replacement repairs; maintain records and road-test repaired equipment.
