Job summary

The Metropolitan Council is seeking an Assistant Transportation Manager to supervise bus operations and dispatch staff in one of Metro Transit’s garages. You will ensure timely and safe delivery of transit services while guiding supervisors, bus operators, and dispatchers to meet daily objectives.

We value leadership, experience in transportation management, and knowledge of union contracts and safety policies. This role requires strong planning, coaching, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of management practices, supervision, and performance management (coaching, staff development).
• Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to bus transportation.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Understanding of union contract administration.
• Time management and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with industry tools.

Responsibilities

• Supervises daily garage operations, schedules, and staff performance.
• Coaches and counsels Bus Operators, Dispatchers, and Garage Instructors.
• Ensures adherence to safety, customer service, and attendance policies.
• Administers disability management, leave, and workers' compensation records.
• Reviews payroll-related schedules and participates in disciplinary processes.
• Represents the division at hearings and prepares supporting documents.
