Job summary

Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) is seeking a Dispatcher to coordinate routes and schedules, manage operator check-ins, and oversee daily operations in Ithaca, NY. The role focuses on maintaining on-time service, effective radio communications, and strong collaboration with drivers, mechanics, and supervisors.

A CDL with passenger & air brake endorsements or willingness to obtain within 3 months is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CDL with passenger & air brake endorsements or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
• Experience in dispatching, transit operations, logistics, or fleet management preferred.
• Strong communication skills and clear speaking voice.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Routes & Schedules: build and manage weekly Operator schedules, assign buses and drivers, handle time-off requests and schedule changes, monitor check-ins for on-time service, support drug/alcohol testing, maintain data in software and docs.
• Own the Radio: manage two-way radio communications, be go-to contact for Operators, mechanics, supervisors, responders, and agencies, handle weather/service disruption communications.
• Support & Guide Operators: provide coaching, enforce policies, help resolve day-to-day issues, track attendance and payroll, administer service requests, keep the Operations Area organized.
• And Sometimes...: drive transit vehicle in emergencies, provide backup street supervision, step in for events or field work.
