Job summary

Green Mountain Transit in Burlington, VT is seeking a data analyst to collect, analyze, and manage transit data to support service planning and performance across GMT.

Responsibilities include developing dashboards, reports, and open data resources; ensuring data quality; and collaborating with staff, board members, and community partners to identify data needs and performance measures.

Qualifications

  • Experience collecting and analyzing data using statistical languages like R or Python.
  • Ability to create data visualizations and dashboards.
  • Experience accessing data via APIs and GIS tools.
  • Experience with spatial data and GIS platforms.
  • Experience producing static and interactive maps.
  • Proficiency with version control and collaborative workflows.
  • Experience developing and publishing web content (HTML/CSS/Quarto).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and teams.
  • Comfort with standard office software and data resources.

Description and Essential Functions

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Planning, Public Administration, Computer Science, or a related field; experience writing comprehensive documents and reports; ability to analyze large data sets and an analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving

  • Must have demonstrated experience processing and analyzing data using statistical programming languages such as R (tidyverse) and/or Python (pandas).
  • Must have demonstrated experience creating data visualizations and dashboards using tools such as ggplot2, Plotly, and Datawrapper.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in accessing and integrating data through APIs using R or Python.
  • Must have demonstrated experience working with spatial data and geographic information systems (GIS).
  • Must have demonstrated experience creating static and interactive maps using ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Must have proficiency with version control tools such as Git and GitHub.
  • Must have familiarity with developing and publishing web-based content using HTML, CSS, Quarto, or similar tools.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess organizational skills and be detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people to include staff, board members, the general public, employees, and external partners/stakeholders.
  • Must be able to effectively use office technology. This includes but is not limited to standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines. For computers, the incumbent must be well-versed in email, word processing software, spreadsheet software, and using shared resources, such as Google Documents.
Benefits
  • Wage: Starting wage is $53,500 to $63,500 annually depending on experience
  • Time Off: 8.67 hours of paid time off accrued per pay period; equivalent to 5+ weeks off.
  • Health: 100% paid health care coverage by GMT, including medical, dental, vision, and prescription. 100% paid premiums for Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability by GMT.
  • Savings: GMT offers 457 Retirement Plans. After one year of service, employees who contribute 3% will be matched by GMT at 5%, and employees who contribute 5% will be matched by GMT at 7%.
