Job summary

City of Tyler is seeking a public transit driver to operate and maintain a DOT-compliant vehicle, ensuring safe and courteous passenger service. The role involves daily inspections, left-right dispatch coordination, and adherence to program policies in a fast-paced city environment.

You will drive assigned buses, assist riders with curb-to-curb service, and report safety or scheduling issues to dispatchers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Class B CDL with P and air brake endorsements required or obtainable within six months.
• Must have clean driving record with no violations in past 12 months.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical.
• Ability to operate a 30-passenger bus and 25' cutaway bus.
• Excellent customer service and effective communication with the public.
• Must comply with City policies and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Drive assigned transit vehicle.
• Receive dispatch directions and follow schedule.
• Report incidents to dispatchers or managers immediately.
• Perform daily pre- and post-inspections.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and fuel as required.
• Assist passengers and provide curb-to-curb service.
• Maintain trip information and records.
• Participate in safety trainings.
• Data entry for reservations and fares when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
