Job summary

WMATA invites applications for a Maintenance Trainee in Bus Maintenance. The two-year WMATA Technical Skills Program (TSP) includes classroom and on-the-job training to graduate as a Mechanic, grade C, under supervision of experienced staff and mentor mechanics.

Incumbents must obtain at least one ASE Certification in Transit Bus before program completion, and work is performed under supervision across BMNT disciplines with gradual independence as skills develop.

Qualifications

• Attend formal training classes and pass exams with 75%+.
• Acquire Automotive Service Excellence certification in Transit Bus prior to completion.
• Two-year training program with supervised OJT and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Attend formal training classes covering basic to advanced bus maintenance.
• Gains familiarity with inspection, repair, testing and calibration of WMATA buses.
• Use hand and power tools to diagnose and repair bus malfunctions under supervision.
• Work with mentors to perform repairs and service on WMATA vehicles and equipment.
• Complete all required documentation and training reports.
• Assist in emergencies by securing WMATA equipment per safety practices.
