Job summary

The City of Conroe is seeking a Transit Aide - Operations to support daily Fixed Route and ADA Paratransit operations, monitor contractors, and oversee fleet rotation and safety. The role requires coordinating route designs, projects, and studies within established procedures and budget guidance.

Qualified candidates will have an associate's degree (or equivalent) and at least two years of transit planning/management experience, plus a CDL with passenger endorsement.

JOB SUMMARY

The Transit Aide - Operations position is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and technical duties for the City of Conroe Transportation Department. The job assignment includes, not limited to: Fixed Route and ADA Paratransit daily operations, contractor monitoring, fleet maintenance/rotation, route supervision and conflict resolution/safety expertise. Work includes administrative and technical responsibility for all route designs, projects and studies. Work is performed with considerable independence within the framework of established procedures, City and departmental policies, and managing the operation within the budgetary plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Preferred the completion of an associate's degree in business or public administration, or equivalent combination of industry training and transit operation experience. Two years of experience with a municipal, state, and/or federal agency in transit planning and/or management, and/or processing documents (paper or electronic) to meet FTA requirements.

Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Proficient in the use of personal computers and a wide range of relevant software programs, applications, and systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, external clients, government agencies, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
• Capable of preparing clear, concise, and effective correspondence, reports, and presentations; skilled in organizing and maintaining records and files.
• Experience collaborating with federal, state, and local agencies such as the Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC).
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations and standards within operational workflows, leveraging appropriate software tools to support compliance and efficiency.
• Proven success in high-pressure, fast-paced environments requiring strong time management and adaptability.
• Exhibits professionalism, poise, and sound judgment, skilled in exercising tact, diplomacy, and discretion in sensitive or complex situations.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate activities across multiple stakeholders and manage specific components of project planning and execution.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, talking and walking.
