Job summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform, develop and interpret routine and specialized laboratory testing independently within established time frames. You will analyze and record quality control and instrument maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and document corrective actions.

The role requires ASCP/AMT/AAB certification or equivalent, education in medical technology or related field, and ability to adhere to safety, regulatory and privacy standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or related field.
• Copy of Transcript.
• ASCP/AMT/AAB generalist certification or discipline certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist ONLY if working in an Academic Medical Center facility.
• ASCP Certification Maintenance Program for incumbents certified after Jan 1, 2004.
• Associate's Degree/College Diploma in medical technology or related field or military MLT certificate.
• Copy of Transcript.
• Hospital or Clinical Laboratory Testing experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs, develops and interprets routine and/or specialized laboratory testing independently within established time frames.
• Performs, analyzes and records quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting, making judgments concerning results and taking corrective action.
• Escalates appropriately when results are out of control and ensures documentation of corrective action.
• Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines and accreditation standards for laboratories by reviewing current checklists/standards.
• Follows safety guidelines, OIG compliance requirements and proficiency testing protocols.
• Participates in performance improvement by analyzing data and supports cost reduction via managing supply and reagent inventory.
• Adapts interactions to patient populations, including privacy respect and appropriate communication.
• Other related duties as required.
