Job summary

North Texas Municipal Water District is seeking an operator to run heavy equipment at transfer stations, ensuring waste is compacted and conveyed efficiently. You may assist Scale Operators and help direct commercial customers and residents to proper disposal areas.

The role is performed under general supervision, prioritizing safety and compliance. Responsibilities include monitoring equipment performance, housekeeping, and observing safe work practices while complying with regulations.

Qualifications

  • Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Operates and monitors heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, skid steer and equipment used to compact and transport solid waste.
  • Directs waste-haulers to proper disposal area.
  • Monitors process operations as directed by supervisor.
  • Housekeeping in assigned units and observing safe work practices.
  • Verify that delivered waste complies with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Work may include general site cleanup and maintenance.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Position Summary

This position operates heavy equipment to facilitate operation of the NTMWD Transfer Stations. Responsible for the operation of equipment used to compact and convey solid waste into transfer trucks. Occasionally will assist Scale Operators to check in commercial customers and Member City residents. Works under general supervision.

Job Responsibilities
  • Operates and monitors performance of construction type heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, skid steer, and equipment used to compact and transport solid waste with minimal supervision.
  • Directs waste-haulers to proper disposal area.
  • Monitors certain process operations as directed by supervisor.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in assigned units.
  • Responsible for observing safe work practices.
  • Verify that delivered waste is in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Work may vary depending on task requirements but may include general site cleanup and maintenance.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in operation of construction type heavy equipment or, light equipment training such as is offered by vocational technical schools or privately operated, independent vocational school or equivalent experience.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Spatial discrimination; eye hand foot coordination; manual dexterity; ability to follow written and oral instructions; generally good physical condition.
  • Requires sustained mental attention regarding correct equipment operation.
  • Must possess general mechanical skills.
  • Must possess the ability to use e-mail, internet, smart phone, Tablet.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions

Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.

This position requires minimal physical exertion with daily lifting requirements up to 10 pounds. Working conditions include exposure to weather and odor. Subject to shift work. Primary equipment used includes front loader, tamper, and skid steer others as required.
