Job summary

Purchase College invites applications for the position of Transfer Success Advisor. Reporting to the Director of the Academic Resource Center, the Transfer Success Advisor will provide comprehensive academic, career, and student support to an assigned caseload of transfer students.

The advisor will help transfer students navigate their transition to Purchase, develop academic plans, connect with campus resources, and prepare for their careers and post‑graduation goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• 2–3 years of professional experience in academic advising or related fields.
• Knowledge of developmental and holistic advising practices.
• Experience supporting college students and addressing barriers to success.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Commitment to working with diverse students and fostering inclusion.
• Experience with student information systems, degree audit tools, early-alert platforms, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Advise an assigned caseload of transfer students from enrollment through graduation.
• Help students understand transfer credits, degree requirements, policies, registration, and pathways to graduation.
• Develop and monitor individualized academic plans based on goals.
• Monitor progress and proactively reach out for support.
• Assist students with academic difficulty and recovery plans.
• Provide career counseling and help students connect academics to careers.
• Connect students with campus resources.
• Provide advising, workshops, orientation, and transfer initiatives.
• Maintain accurate advising records using SIS, degree audits, and early-alert platforms.
• Collaborate with faculty and offices to support transfer students.
• Provide training to faculty and staff on transfer pathways and services.
• Participate in transfer recruitment, orientation, open house, etc.
• Contribute to assessment and retention initiatives.
• Supervise peer advisors or student assistants.
