Bill Howe Plumbing, Inc. is seeking a Training Supervisor to develop and deliver plumbing and drain technician training. You will lead classroom sessions, field demonstrations, and ride-alongs, ensuring training stays current with codes and equipment.
You will supervise onboarding, pair new hires with mentors, and build clear career paths while coordinating with field supervisors to close skill gaps and improve safety. The role emphasizes leadership and hands-on coaching.
At Bill Howe, we promote from within, and that starts with great training. As Training Supervisor, you will build the skills of our plumbing and drain technicians, from a helper's first day on the job to a technician's next promotion. You will spend most of your time in the field and in the classroom, teaching, coaching, and making sure every technician works safely, to code, and the Bill Howe way.
Under the direction of the [Drain Operations Manager / Division Manager], the Training Supervisor plans, delivers, and tracks technical training for apprentices, helpers, plumbing technicians, and field drain technicians. This role partners closely with Field Supervisors and division leadership to close skill gaps, reduce callbacks, strengthen safety, and build a strong bench of future leads.
1. Own the technician training program: Build and maintain training plans, curriculum, and skills checklists for each career level: helper, apprentice, technician, and lead. Lead classroom training, hands-on demonstrations, and ride-alongs on a regular schedule. Keep training content current with plumbing codes, new equipment, and company processes.
2. Develop skilled, confident field drain technicians: Train and certify drain technicians on the safe, correct use of sectional and drum cable machines, hydro-jetters, and specialty cutting heads. Coach technicians on accurate diagnosis and on choosing the right solution, including when to recommend hydro-jetting, spot repairs, or trenchless and pipe rehab options.
Ensure technicians properly clean, maintain, and inspect cables, jetter hoses, nozzles, and camera equipment.
3. Get new hires field-ready, fast: Lead onboarding for new field hires, covering safety, tools, truck setup, ServiceTitan, and company standards. Pair new hires with mentors and track their progress through each onboarding milestone.
4. Build clear career paths: Run skills assessments and certifications that determine readiness for advancement.
Provide input on promotion, readiness, and corrective action decisions; these recommendations are given particular weight by leadership. Identify and develop technicians with potential to become leads and supervisors.
5. Raise quality and reduce callbacks: Review callback, repeat stoppage, and quality data to find skill gaps, then deliver targeted retraining. Conduct job site visits and field audits to confirm training is being applied correctly. Partner with Field Supervisors on individual coaching plans for technicians who need extra support.
6. Strengthen our safety culture: Train technicians on OSHA guidelines, PPE use, and drain-specific hazards, including rotating equipment, jetter pressure, and sewage and biohazard exposure. Reinforce California meal and rest period requirements and accurate timekeeping. Perform truck and tool inspections to confirm safe, well-maintained equipment.
7. Track and report training results: Keep accurate records of training attendance, assessments, and certifications.
Verify technicians document work correctly in ServiceTitan, including camera footage, findings, and recommendations.
Give leadership regular updates on training progress, skill gaps, and technician morale, and attend weekly field meetings.
