The Training Manager for the Fort Smith Motor Plant at ABB is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing training and organizational development strategies to ensure safety, compliance, and workforce readiness. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this onsite role requires 5+ years in training and development, including leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 2 years of experience
  • 5+ years of training and development experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role within manufacturing/industrial environment
  • Proven success designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs that improve workforce capability, safety, compliance, and business results
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, LMS, training technologies, and virtual/hybrid learning delivery
  • Demonstrated expertise in OSHA and regulatory compliance, safety training, workforce development, continuous improvement methodologies, and training effectiveness measurement
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, project management, and analytical skills with ability to influence stakeholders
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Your role and responsibilities:

The Training Manager for the Fort Smith Motor Plant is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive training and organizational development strategies to ensure operational excellence, safety compliance, and workforce competency. This strategic leadership role involves directing training initiatives across all departments, collaborating with plant leadership and corporate training functions, and driving continuous improvement in employee skills, safety culture, and business performance. The position reports to the Plant Manageand serves as a key strategic partner in achieving plant objectives and supporting corporate learning and development initiatives.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Develop and execute the plant training strategy, aligning workforce capability, leadership development, safety, and compliance programs with business objectives, operational needs, and organizational growth plans.
  • Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of training programs, curricula, competency frameworks, and learning systems to build technical expertise, leadership capability, and workforce readiness.
  • Manage the training function and team, including resource planning, performance management, succession development, training analytics, and measurement of program effectiveness and return on investment.
  • Champion a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence by ensuring regulatory adherence, driving workforce development initiatives, and leveraging training to support continuous improvement, productivity, and employee engagement.
Qualifications for the role:
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 2 years of experience OR Associate's degree with minimum 4 years of experience OR High School Diploma with minimum 6 years of experience.
  • 5+ years of training and development experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role within a manufacturing, industrial, or operations environment.
  • Proven success designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs that improve workforce capability, safety performance, compliance, and business results.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, learning management systems (LMS), training technologies, and virtual/hybrid learning delivery.
  • Demonstrated expertise in OSHA and regulatory compliance, safety training, workforce development, continuous improvement methodologies, and training effectiveness measurement.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, project management, and analytical skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and develop high-performing teams.
