Job summary

Midlands Center, part of the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, is seeking a Training Coordinator to deliver and coordinate staff development training. The role includes managing in-service training, certifications, and volunteer activities, with emphasis on accurate record-keeping and program delivery.

Position

Position serves as one of the instructors for Staff Development. Coordinates new employee in-service training classes and annual training for the center. Assists in the coordination of activities associated with Volunteer Services.

  • Coordinates the new employee training curriculum for staff at Midlands Center. Trains most modules of orientation classes and other specific classes which are directed by agency programmatic needs.
  • Maintains certifications and coordinates activities related to Therapeutic Options and Defensive Driving. Trains and maintains the Defensive Driving program in accordance with the facility's requirements.
  • Serves as the facilitator and/or content expert for selected training programs (i.e. PRA, Defensive Driving, First Aid, CPR, etc.).
  • Assists in managing all aspects of Midlands Center Volunteer Services activities.
  • Ensures that all training is accurately recorded, filed securely, analyzed and disbursement of training records is done in accordance with the Department/Facility protocols.
  • Encourages staff commitment to continuing professional development and expanding their capacity to provide quality supports.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

The position for this posting is located at Midlands Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

A bachelor's degree and relevant experience.

Knowledge of applicable training principles and practices. Knowledge of methods and techniques of conducting formal and informal training sessions. Knowledge of visual aid use and development. Knowledge of aids, methods and service skills which will enable the visually impaired to become rehabilitated. Ability to conduct conferences, lead discussions, instruct training groups and stimulate individuals and groups in the learning process. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to analyze training and development needs and resources and to recommend and communicate solutions effectively.

Immunization

If this position requires the applicant to work directly with consumers of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, tuberculosis (TB) skin or blood testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan

In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
