Job summary

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD-OIDD) is seeking an Equipment Operator in Midlands Center, Columbia, SC. This role transports consumers to Day Programs, medical appointments, and activities, ensuring safety and professionalism while maintaining the vehicle and assisting with daily programs.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license; experience with heavy equipment

Responsibilities

  • Transport consumers to day programs, medical appointments, and activities using state vehicles in a safe, professional manner.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
  • Assist staff and consumers to support safe completion of medical appointments and daily activities.
  • Recognize mechanical faults and report to supervisor; report accidents or damages.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Under the direct supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, this position transports consumers at OIDD-Midlands Center on and off campus:

  • Transports consumers to all consumers to Day Programs, medical appointments, and all various activities by utilizing state vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
  • Completes daily vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections as well as maintains vehicle cleanliness.
  • Assists staff and consumers as needed to safely complete medical appointments and daily programs activities.
  • Recognizes mechanical faults and reports to supervisor. Reports accidents, injuries, and/or damages of vehicle.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

The position for this posting is located at Midlands Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

High school diploma or GED. Valid driver's license. Experience in the operation or maintenance of heavy equipment, motorized vehicles or machinery that is directly related to the area of employment.

Knowledge of how to operator a vehicle with a wheelchair lift. Knowledge and skills in securing wheelchairs in vehicles.

All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
