Job summary

MidAmerican Energy Company in Urbandale, IA is seeking an Associate Transmission Operator who will train toward a Transmission Operator role, monitoring and operating the bulk electric power system (345 kV and 161 kV) under NERC and FERC standards.

You will support switching, alarms, dispatching and outage coordination, complete a 12‑month training path, pursue certification, and move to the Transmission Operator position as you demonstrate proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent.
• Five years of experience in electric operations.
• Must obtain and maintain North American Electric Reliability Corporation certification status at a level of Balancing, Interchange and Transmission Operator or Reliability Coordinator Operator.

Responsibilities

• Complete training to become fully qualified as a transmission operator within 12 months of starting the training program.
• Operate the transmission system according to department policies and procedures and standards set by NERC and the Regional Reliability Organization.
• Maintain proper voltage and reactive loading; adjust transformers and switchgear to achieve voltage objectives.
• Coordinate requests for equipment outages to ensure reliability of the inter-connected system.
