Job summary

The City of Carlsbad is seeking a Trails Program Coordinator to oversee the Trails Program, coordinate volunteers and maintenance staff, and ensure trails are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for everyone to enjoy.

You will plan and manage volunteer events, create marketing materials, coordinate with partner organizations, recruit and train volunteers, and help monitor trail conditions and program impact as part of the Parks & Recreation Department.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED; some college coursework preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience and/or training performing duties comparable to a Program Coordinator.
• Experience working with the public.
• Experience administering and implementing basic maintenance/improvements; preferably in an outdoor setting, such as trails.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, setup, and management of multiple trails volunteer events, ranging from small groups to large groups, and quarterly volunteers' meetings.
• Provide face-to-face volunteer coordination, suggest program improvements, and recommend guidelines and procedures for assigned responsibilities.
• Create marketing plans, maps and various documentation for trails volunteer events.
• Select equipment and supplies for program activities; prepare routine administrative reports.
• Assist on trail maintenance projects and events through training, oversight, scheduling, and hands-on support; respond to inquiries from the public and partner organizations.
• Coordinate related projects to ensure program goals are met by performing duties personally or through team members.
• Assist with trail monitoring program assessments.
• Recruit, train and schedule volunteers for the program.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
