Job summary

City of Carlsbad is seeking a Trails Program Coordinator to oversee the city’s trails program, coordinate volunteers and maintenance staff, and help ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained trail system for residents and visitors.

You will plan and manage volunteer events, recruit and train volunteers, and coordinate related projects to meet program goals in an outdoor setting that includes hiking and trail work across Carlsbad’s extensive trail network.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year of experience performing duties similar to a Program Coordinator.
• Experience working with the public.
• Experience administering basic maintenance/improvements; outdoor setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the Parks Superintendent, assist with planning, setup, and management of multiple trails volunteer events.
• Provide face-to-face volunteer coordination, suggest program improvements (i.e. training, trail inspection program, user feedback) and establish guidelines.
• Create marketing plans, maps and documentation for trails events.
• Select equipment and supplies for program and activities; prepare routine administrative reports.
• Assist on trail maintenance projects and events through training, oversight, scheduling, and hands-on support; respond to inquiries.
• Coordinate related projects to meet program goals by working with staff or volunteers.
• Assist with trail monitoring program assessments.
• Recruit, train and schedule volunteers for the program.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
