Job summary

FedEx Logistics in Ohio is seeking a Yard Switcher/Package Handler to move trailers between yards and doors, and to assist with hand-packaging as needed. This role requires safe operation of yard equipment, attention to safety, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

The job includes coordinating trailer movements, performing pre- and post-trip inspections, loading/unloading packages, and using scanners and carts.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow safety instructions.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
• No experience required; six (6) months of experience as a package handler or switching/CDL operator preferred.

Responsibilities

• Move and switch trailers in yard and between yard and doors.
• Coordinate trailer movements with management/central control.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Load and unload packages; hand-to-surface handling.
• Sort packages by reading labels and scanning with appropriate conveyor system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
