Job summary

Quality Repair Solutions in North Charleston, SC is seeking an energetic Trailer Mechanic to diagnose, repair and perform preventive maintenance on semi-truck trailers and tractors. Work from a service truck, performing brake work, tire replacements, electrical troubleshooting, and basic structural repairs while meeting DOT and company standards.

Use manufacturer maintenance schedules and our software to document work, and adhere to safety policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience with diesel engines, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• 1 year of tractor and trailer maintenance experience and knowledge of DOT rules.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
• Perform annual inspections on equipment as required.
• Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
• Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the yard and shop.
• Identify parts and supplies as needed.
• Follow safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and disposal procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Perform welding as needed.
• Carry out miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Job Details

Job Summary

Responsible for diagnosing, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on semi-truck trailers and tractors, including tasks like brake adjustments, tire replacements, electrical troubleshooting, basic structural repairs, and more, all while working out of a service truck and adhering to strict safety regulations; general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal and state regulations and company standards. Uses technical publications or automated systems in maintaining vehicles to prescribed manufacturers’ maintenance schedules and for researching parts. Properly annotates all maintenance and labor performed in maintenance management software.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
• Perform annual/systematic 90 day inspections (trailers) on equipment as required.
• Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
• Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
• Able to identify parts and supplies as needed.
• Adheres to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
• Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
• Using welding equipment.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities

• Must possess at least 1 year of experience with general knowledge of equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, and electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Must possess at least 1 year of experience with general knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent vocational school required.
• At least 1 year related experience required.

Additional Job Information

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours depend on location.
