Job summary

Summit BSA is seeking a Trek Programs Coordinator to develop and oversee backpacking and bikepacking experiences at the New River Gorge. You will lead and support participants of varying abilities, providing safe, engaging adventures and instruction.

This role trains and supervises staff, coordinates equipment, maintains paperwork, and upholds Scout Oath and Law. Housing is provided (Staff Camp 10'x12' tent), a Summit Staff Uniform, and a 45–55 hour work week.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 21+
  • 2+ years leading teams
  • Preferred: 2+ years of Summit employment
  • Valid driver license and ability to obtain a Summit Driving Permit
  • Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (background screening)
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work communication

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare bikepacking and backpacking programs through New River Gorge
  • Provide logistical support to trek programs
  • Train and supervise staff in trail program execution for guest safety
  • Assist with setup and takedown of program equipment
  • Ensure all equipment is used properly, inventoried, and returned in good repair
  • Ensure paperwork is filled out accurately and timely
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by SBR leadership
  • Abide by policies in the SBR staff handbook
