Job summary

The City of Chicago is seeking a Coordinating Engineer I in the Department of Transportation to lead the traffic technology and engineering team. You will oversee ITS projects, manage signal operations, and ensure safe and efficient street traffic for over a million pedestrians and vehicles daily.

The role requires PE licensure, a relevant engineering degree, and several years of supervisory experience, with location at 2 N LaSalle St.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5 years of related experience, 3 in supervision.
• Master's degree in Engineering with 4 years of related experience, 3 in supervision.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; Illinois P.E. license mandatory by employment.

Responsibilities

• Manages traffic signal engineers and consultants, review and approve signal timings, ITS designs, and ITS implementation projects.
• Reviews signal operations, coordinate with maintenance crews, other CDOT divisions, City departments, and external stakeholders.
• Facilitates remote operation of traffic signals and ITS field devices.
• Monitors real-time data from the field and third-party sources and oversee the systems hosting transportation data and CDOT's Traffic Management Center.
• Identifies areas of concern for traffic safety and traffic flow and coordinates implementation of counter measures.
