Job summary

The City of Pittsburgh is seeking a Staff Engineer (Traffic Bureau) to help ensure safe and efficient movement of people through the city. You will optimize traffic safety and operations by analyzing street conditions, planning data collection, reviewing signing and pavement marking plans, and coordinating signal timing and repaving-related markings.

The position lies in the Mobility & Infrastructure Department and carries a salary of $71,414 per year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Total Qualifying Requirement is four (4) years.
• Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement.

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates the design and/or management of complex capital projects in traffic and streets.
• Conducts non-complex engineering calculations and designs.
• Assigns and directs the work of related professional, technical, and clerical staff on a project basis.
• Reviews shop drawings and internal studies for traffic operations or safety.
• Reviews reports to monitor progress and identify problems or delays; recommends changes.
• Identifies problems and hazards and advises Project Manager; implements corrective action to meet schedule and budget.
• Meets with representatives of other agencies, City Departments, consultants, and the public on proposed projects.
• Directs work performed in-house and under consultants/contractors.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Initiates payment forms for consultants/contractors.
• Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence.
• Performs field work including data gathering and inspections for traffic projects.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.
