Job summary

The City of Longview is seeking a trainee to observe and assist Traffic Technicians and the Traffic Engineer in the repair, testing and programming of traffic signal systems. This role involves learning with on‑the‑job guidance, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting sign design per MUTCD guidelines.

You will gain practical experience with control cabinets, detectors, and controllers, while maintaining safety and city records.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED.
• IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Technician Certification required.
• IMSA Sign and Pavement Marking Level I Certification required.
• Valid Texas Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Observe, learn and assist experienced Traffic Technicians and the Traffic Engineer in inspecting, installing, maintaining and repairing traffic signal devices.
• Assist in testing, programming and troubleshooting traffic signal equipment and controllers.
• Maintain records of inspection, installation, maintenance and repairs; prepare daily work logs and incident/accident reports.
• Assist with design and fabrication of signs per MUTCD and city standards; support street striping and pavement markings.
