Job description

Under general supervision the Traffic Signal Technician position ensures the city's traffic signal systems and related devices to move traffic in a safe and efficient manner.

Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

  • Performs traffic signal field operations by patrolling, checking, and repairing intersection equipment daily; constructs, tests, and installs traffic signal hardware; monitors intersections; performs tests and maintains intersection equipment; maintains roadway lighting systems; provides after hour support; responds and schedules repairs to system; responds to power outages.
  • Handles special events by assisting with work zones and closures; monitors intersections during high traffic functions; monitors customers when using city facilities; responds to city emergencies; assists with natural disasters and street maintenance during inclement weather.
  • Assists other departments by helping with tree removal or trimming; assists with aerial lighting issues; provides electrical support for construction projects' assists with signs and markings.
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Some college preferred.

  • One (1) year experience in construction, electrical, traffic signal maintenance, or a closely related field.

  • Traffic signal experience is preferred.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Possession of I.M.S.A. Work Zone Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months.
  • Possession of I.M.S.A. Traffic Signal Technician Level I Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months.
