Job summary

The City of Charlotte's Transportation Department is seeking a skilled technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair traffic signal and electronic control equipment to ensure safe operation of the city's transportation network.

Responsibilities include servicing signal controllers, conflict monitors, cameras, and detection systems; completing work orders in CityWorks; and coordinating with the team to handle emergencies, outages, and routine maintenance with a strong emphasis on

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain City driving permit upon hire.
  • IMSA Signals Level I or higher Certification, or ability to obtain within one year from date of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to work outdoors around energized 120‑volt electrical circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair traffic control devices across the city’s transportation network, including controllers and related electronics.
  • Maintain traffic management and detection camera systems to ensure reliable operation.
  • Diagnose malfunctions at signalized intersections and perform field repairs as needed.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records and city work orders in CityWorks.
  • Participate in a rotating on‑call program to respond to emergencies 24/7 and serve as first point of contact after hours.
