Job summary

City of St Joseph in Missouri is seeking an Equipment Operator II in the Traffic division of the Public Works & Transportation department. The role focuses on signing, striping, and pavement markings, and involves operating a range of traffic control equipment and maintenance tools.

Responsibilities include installing signs, maintaining records, and coordinating closures for maintenance, floods, accidents, and public events.

Qualifications

• Requires VALID Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimum supervision.
• Skills in operating equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various traffic control devices.
• Knowledge of the MUTCD rules and regulations.
• Skills in Microsoft Office products.
• Knowledge of applicable City, State and Federal rules and regulations.
• Ability to learn applicable City Ordinances.
• Certification with work zone safety through IMSA or ATA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates mobile pavement striping truck, walk behind paint stripers, and hand paints pedestrian crossings using stencils.
• Operates dump trucks, equipment, machinery, saws, routers, jackhammers, and air compressor.
• Transports equipment and workers and hauls materials efficiently.
• Operates snow removal equipment.
• Manufactures and refurbishes traffic signs using sign making equipment.
• Maintains daily work records.
• On-call on rotating shifts and responds to emergencies as needed.
• Installs and replaces all regulatory, informational, and warning signs with various hand and power tools.
• Sets up daily closures for routine maintenance and repair projects.
• Sets up emergency closures for floods, accidents, fires, hazmat spills, incidents requiring traffic control.
• Sets up weekend closures for city events.
• Investigates and abates sight-distance issues.
• Serves as crew leader in foreman's absence.
