Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking two individuals to work with the Transportation Sign Shop Team, performing skilled work operating motorized equipment in support of traffic control and maintenance operations. The role follows a Tue-Sat schedule, 7:00 a.m.

to 3:30 p.m., with occasional changes for special events. Responsibilities include sign and pavement marking maintenance, installation/removal of signs and markings, setting up traffic cones, and supporting traffic control for routine maintenance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; one to three months related experience and/or training in landscape maintenance and heavy manual work is desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately
• Able to perform physical tasks including lifting and operating motorized equipment as needed

Responsibilities

• Assist with sign maintenance and pavement markings installations/removals
• Set up and remove traffic cones; work with long-line striping crew
• Support traffic control setups for routine maintenance and special events
• Potential snow removal and emergency response duties as needed
