Job summary

The NC Department of Transportation is seeking a Traffic Safety Project Engineer to join the Safety Planning Group within the Traffic Safety Systems Section. The role provides technical leadership, engineering expertise, and investigative support for Transportation Improvement Program projects.

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, three years' experience, and may require Professional Engineer licensure.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and three years of progressively responsible experience.
May require registration as a professional engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Strong ability to explain engineering concepts clearly in writing and speech.

Responsibilities

Lead road safety assessment teams across the state and develop recommendations.
Provide crash analyses and crash mapping (collision diagrams and GIS mapping).
Support project development with safety data and analyses using Highway Safety Manual methodologies.
Communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders and manage related reports.
