Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) seeks a skilled Traffic Management Specialist for the Traffic Operations Center (TOC) Control Room. The TOC Operator monitors traffic and disseminates information to maximize flow and safety, coordinating with responders and media as needed.

The role reports to the Control Room Shift Supervisor and requires handling high-stress situations, data reporting, and timely communications with multiple agencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of customer service and/or relevant experience.
• Ability to work in an environment with high mental and emotional stress and exposure to graphic content.

Responsibilities

• Ensure high quality traffic operations in the Traffic Operations Center control room.
• Assist the Shift Supervisor as Incident Manager for Level 1 incidents and act as main correspondent for subsequent incidents.
• Coordinate with media, the Dept of Public Safety, and Community Relations.
• Communicate with UDOT regions, the Incident Management Team, and Utah Highway Patrol.
• Maintain safety standards and quality assurance and be prepared for extended hours during incidents or weather events.
• Generate concise information and reports for public and internal use.
