Job summary

Parsons' Atlanta office is seeking a qualified Traffic Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience across traffic analysis, safety review, GIS/CAD support, and reporting on transport projects. You will work with senior engineers, perform roadway performance evaluations, prepare figures, and participate in field visits, with training in Synchro, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and related tools.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering (or a related field) at an accredited college or university.
• Completed at least 1 year of undergraduate coursework within the degree program.

Responsibilities

• Traffic Analysis: Process turning movement counts, speed data, and travel time runs and evaluate roadway and intersection performance using tools like Synchro/SimTraffic.
• Safety Analysis: Review historical crash reports to identify high-collision patterns (hot spots), calculate crash rates, and evaluate potential countermeasure treatments.
• Geospatial & CAD Support: Create, edit, and organize GIS layers and CAD drawings (e.g., ArcGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD) to map roadway networks, and develop signage/striping plans.
• Documentation: Build and maintain structured spreadsheets (e.g., capacity analyses, signal warrant checks, sight distance calculations).
• Team Collaboration: Coordinate daily task deliverables with senior project engineers, participate in progress meetings, and conduct on-site field visits
• Technical Reporting: Draft technical memoranda, methodology sections, Level of Service tables, and summary figures summarizing traffic findings and proposed engineering recommendations.
