Located in the heart of Southern California, our firm works on a wide range of projects for public and private sector clients across California and the western United States. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level Traffic Engineer / Transportation Planner to embark on a fulfilling career in traffic engineering and transportation planning within a small, collaborative consulting environment.

Responsibilities:

As a Traffic Engineer / Transportation Planner at TJW Engineering, you will collaborate with a resolute team of professionals to address urban mobility challenges, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable transportation options. Under the guidance of registered Civil Engineers, Traffic Engineers, and Professional Transportation Planners, you will work on various tasks and projects, including but not limited to:

• Collaborate closely with Senior Staff to develop transportation studies such as traffic impact analysis (LOS Studies), Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) analysis, circulation studies, safety studies, mitigation measures, site plan review, striping plans, parking studies, queue studies, and other mobility analyses.
• Coordinate with clients and project team members regarding project, project schedules, and deliverables
• Communicate with public agencies to obtain relevant traffic data such as traffic signal timings, project scoping, collision records, development lists, conditions of approval, etc.
• Conduct field reviews such as intersection documentation, photo documentation, signal timing, parking inventory/counts, and vehicle counts.
• Compile reports, exhibits, and plans using Synchro/Simtraffic, Vistro, Vissim, TransCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite applications
• Represent the company in meetings with clients, agencies, Planning Commission, and City Council meetings.

In this position at TJW Engineering, you will embark on a developmental journey, gradually assuming diverse responsibilities as you expand your skills and expertise. Initially, your role will involve conducting transportation analyses, compiling reports, and conducting field visits to collect crucial data. As your experience evolves, you will represent TJW at client meetings, engage in dialogue with agency staff, and take on mentoring and training responsibilities for junior team members. You will progress to overseeing small projects independently and pave the way for increased responsibilities within the company.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, civil engineering, or a related field.
• 2-6 years of experience in transportation planning.
• Experience with Vistro, Vissim, Synchro/SimTraffic, TransCAD, and/or ArcGIS software.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Valid California Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Work experience in a transportation planning firm/company.
• Working knowledge of SB743 and VMT CEQA analyses.
• Working knowledge of traffic engineering manuals (i.e. CA MUTCD, Caltrans Standards, ITE Parking, ULI Parking Manual and Trip Generation, etc.)
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineering – Civil (CE) , Professional Engineer – Traffic (TE), and/or Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) certification.
