Job summary

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is seeking an Engineer Trainee in Middletown, PA. This entry-level role provides on-the-job training under senior engineers and exposure to traffic, design and construction projects.

Successful candidates will develop practical proficiency in engineering principles, participate in project reviews, and may progress toward an Engineer Project Manager 1 title after the training period. Full-time with hybrid work options offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; equivalent combinations may be accepted.
• Valid driver’s license; must obtain PA license within six months of employment.
• Candidates pursuing a degree with graduation Winter 2026 or Spring 2027 encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Participates in on-the-job training to develop proficiency in engineering principles.
• Assists in design and construction projects under supervision of senior engineers.
• Reviews submissions from consultants or contractors and identifies discrepancies.
• Observes and learns the oversight process for traffic, design, and construction projects both in office and field.
• Attends monthly progress/status meetings and reviews project criteria.
• Supports inspection of roadways, bridges, tunnels and other highway features.
