Job summary

KLJ is seeking an entry to mid-level engineer to support local technical assistance for analysis, design, and operation of streets and highways. Your work will cover data collection, traffic analysis, and documentation to meet industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

You will perform basic traffic engineering tasks, assist with capacity analyses, and contribute to design, concept development, and construction of roadways and signals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 0 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with roadway transportation and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently or in a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Familiarity with applicable design software packages.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development, design, and construction.
• Support investigations and inspections of site conditions to ensure conformance with rules and permits.
• Provide technical assistance on design requirements and operational strategies for safety and functionality.
• Verify site characteristics and assist with traffic engineering studies and signal system design to ensure safe roadways.
• Conduct traffic counts and generate concise documentation using electronic systems.
• Complete training on assigned tasks and adhere to KLJ policies and procedures.
• Work under supervision or as part of a team to meet project objectives.
• Meet project-specific schedules, including potential extended workweeks.
