KLJ seeks an entry-level civil engineering assistant to support design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects. Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, assist data collection, compilation, and analysis from site sources (surveys, GIS data, blueprints, etc.).
  • Assist with basic professional civil engineering work and observations of site conditions to ensure compliance with rules and permits.
  • Perform routine engineering tasks and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and safety considerations.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical input on environmental, design, and construction issues.
  • Create complete, accurate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and site procedures, including data and surveys.
  • Complete assigned task training and develop professional conduct per policies.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and project needs.
  • Take on additional duties as required by business needs.

Job description

Job Summary

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction of civil engineering projects. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Assist with performing basic professional civil engineering work relating to conducting research and observations of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Performs routine engineering functions and provides entry‑level technical assistance on various design requirements, operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end‑users, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing basic technical assistance on various environmental, design, and construction issues.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures which include but are not limited to location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and adhere to professional conduct and KLJ’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1+ years of relevant post education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Basic understanding of process and concepts for design/build.
  • Basic understanding of relevant environmental and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
  • Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, and crawl; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Talk or hear and communicate clearly.
  • Occasionally walk on uneven terrain up to two miles per day.
  • Frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds and infrequently up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
