Job Title: Traffic Electrical Technician I / Engineering Inspector II
Salary: Traffic Electrical Technician I starts at $47,390.00; Engineering Inspector II starts at $56,304.00
Duties
- Conducts activities related to traffic engineering, including joint field layouts with signal contractors, communication equipment, and utility companies for traffic signal and overhead sign installations.
- Inspects complex road and signal projects, especially those involving Federal Aid Funding, requiring detailed recordkeeping.
- Maintains project records for audits and normal inspection requirements.
- Prepares and distributes accurate paperwork for traffic signal installations.
- Provides direction and coordinates work of other inspectors and contractors.
- Calculates volumes and areas of complex shapes.
- Inspects traffic signal installation and modernization work.
- Keeps accurate records of contractor work.
- Layouts, programs, and maintains vehicle detection systems and CCTV cameras.
- Evaluates and recommends new traffic signal technologies, including ITS, connected vehicles, and RSUs.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Assists in reviewing traffic signal permit applications.
- Uses computer technology for work assignments.
- Maintains a professional and courteous manner to promote a positive image.
- Supports RCOC hours of operation with a flexible schedule.
- Maintains regular and predictable on-site attendance.
Experience/Education
- High school diploma or equivalent, with additional technical training in mathematics, electricity/electronics (typically acquired in the first year of college or technical school).
- ITS certification and electrical apprentice certification are preferred.
- Knowledge of Field Manager and MDOT specifications is preferred.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Valid Michigan Driver's License required.
