Job summary

DRMP in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Traffic Design Project Manager to oversee traffic signal, control, signing and pavement marking design. The role includes managing multiple projects, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating data/evaluations for design development.

Ideal candidates hold a PE license with 5–10 years of experience in public/private sector projects, including NCDOT, and are proficient in MicroStation/AutoCAD. The position offers a sign-on bonus and a strong compensation package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering licensure in the state where work is performed.
  • 5–10 years of experience with public and private sector projects, specifically with NCDOT.
  • Experience in traffic signal design, traffic control design, signing and pavement marking design, and cost estimating.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering calculations and analyses to complete projects.
  • Collaborates with CAD technicians, field personnel, and designers to ensure accuracy.
  • Manages multiple funded projects and ensures technical quality.
  • Prepares project fee proposals and follows up as needed.
  • Tracks costs, schedules and performance metrics for projects.
  • Coordinates data tabulation, evaluation, reports, and design development.
  • Performs field assignments including site inspections and property assessments.
  • Maintains field notes and photo documentation as required.
  • Supervises Associates and Interns; mentors staff to develop skills.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include
  • Performs various engineering related calculations and analyses in the application of the basic design criteria necessary to complete assigned projects.
  • Collaborates with CAD technicians, field technicians, designers, surveyors, and other team personnel to complete projects efficiently and accurately.
  • Manages multiple publicly and privately funded projects and provides technical quality control of projects.
  • Prepares project fee proposals and follows up as appropriate.
  • Responsible for tracking of costs, schedules, and performance measurements for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates the preparation of data tabulation/evaluation and reports and assists in report production and development of engineering designs and specifications.
  • Performs field assignments including site inspections and conducting field assessment of properties.
  • Maintains field notes and photo documentation as required.
  • Supervises work of Associates and Interns.
  • Mentors/Coaches Associates and Interns to develop staff.
What you'll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering licensure in the state where this person’s work is primarily performed.
  • 5 - 10 years of overall and progressively responsible experience with public and private sector projects, specifically with NCDOT.
  • Experience in traffic signal design, traffic control design, signing and pavement marking design, and cost estimating.
  • Proficient in MicroStation/AutoCAD
