Job summary

DRMP in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Traffic Design Engineer to join our Transportation team. This role focuses on traffic operations, safety, and roadway design support, contributing to impactful projects across North Carolina and beyond.

Responsibilities include traffic engineering tasks, signal plans per MUTCD and DOT standards, and coordinating with roadway, planning, and drainage teams. A Civil Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program and 2–6+ years’ experience are required; EIT

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • 2–6+ years of traffic engineering experience, including NCDOT traffic signal design plans for DOT or municipal projects.
  • Working knowledge of traffic design software such as MicroStation, ORD, AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT standards (NCDOT experience preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Coordinate with roadway, drainage, and planning teams to ensure traffic design integration.
  • Apply DOT, MUTCD, and local agency standards to traffic design tasks.
  • Assist senior engineers with data collection and field observations.
  • Participate in client meetings and coordination with reviewing agencies as needed.

Department: Transportation, Location: Raleigh, NC

DRMP is seeking a motivated Traffic Design Engineer to join our growing Transportation team. This role is ideal for an engineer with a passion for traffic operations, safety, and roadway design support, who is eager to contribute to impactful transportation projects across North Carolina and beyond.

Your engineering assignments may include signal and intelligent transportation systems design, signing, pavement marking, work zone traffic control, and supporting DOT and municipal transportation projects. You’ll be working closely with roadway designers, planners, and senior traffic engineers to develop high-quality traffic plans and technical documentation.

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus!

What You'll Do:
