Job summary

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is seeking a Traffic Engineer in New York, NY to perform transportation planning and traffic engineering for redevelopment and major capital programs, with coordination across PA staff and consultants. Responsibilities include preparing contract drawings, applying ITS and signing standards, evaluating operations and safety, and managing scopes and budgets.

A Bachelor's in Civil/Transportation Engineering and 4+ years of experience are required; EIT

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum four years of traffic engineering experience with planning studies and simulation.
• Proficiency in written and oral communication.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Prepare contract drawings, technical specifications and cost estimates; prepare Traffic Management plans and MOT documents; audit traffic engineering design documents.
• Apply knowledge of traffic design concepts related to facilities design, updating ITS and traffic signal systems, facility signing systems and roadway striping plans.
• Apply knowledge of traffic operations concepts related to traffic control devices, traffic signal systems, temporary traffic control zones, access management, transportation systems management, traffic ITS, and roadway inventory data/asset management.
• Apply knowledge of transportation planning concepts related to data collection, capacity analysis, geometric design, traffic forecasting, traffic modeling and simulation, and trip assignment.
• Apply knowledge of traffic safety concepts related to crash site analysis, data analysis, road safety auditing, and countermeasure development.
• Developing, reviewing, and/or managing traffic-related scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for traffic operational assignments.
• Developing and maintaining records of all project agreements, finances, reports, and documents.
