Job summary

The City of Birmingham is seeking a well-qualified Traffic Planning Technician to plan and conduct traffic studies under MUTCD guidelines. You will gather data through interviews, CCTV, and field observations, analyze patterns, and help improve roadway flow.

Responsibilities include inspecting traffic control devices and construction zones, maintaining records, and supporting Traffic Analysts during studies. Applicants should be able to use Office tools and maps/drawings in daily work.

Qualifications

• Driver's license.
• Experience applying MUTCD standards to design/construction projects following local, state, and federal guidelines.
• Experience drawing and reading technical drawings and descriptions such as maps, plans, specs, field reviews to determine information.

Responsibilities

• Inspects roadways and traffic control devices for safe operation and compliance with MUTCD regulations.
• Communicates with coworkers, agencies, contractors, and the public to identify and solve problems related to roadways and traffic control devices.
• Creates and maintains records, databases, and files to ensure accurate, retrievable documentation.
• Provides support to Traffic Analysts and Engineers during traffic studies, assisting with data collection per established policies.
