Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is hiring a Traffic Control Technician to help manage traffic flow at construction sites across California. You will implement safety standards, set up work zones, and communicate with drivers to minimize risk.

Responsibilities include directing traffic with signs and flags, maintaining equipment, and documenting incidents and maintenance reports. The role requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Full-time employment offered.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver''s license with clean driving record.
  • At least 1 year of traffic control experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state work zone safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with MUTCD guidelines and proper traffic control devices.
  • Understanding of construction site safety rules.
  • Minimum 500 hours of traffic control flagging experience.
  • Basic understanding of construction job sites.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety focus across all job duties.
  • Distribute traffic control signs and markers.
  • Set up and tear down work zones per project requirements.
  • Move and place traffic cones up to 50 lbs.
  • Position signs in correct order to manage traffic.
  • Keep trucks and equipment organized and ready.
  • Direct traffic using signs, flags, and hand signals.
  • Record license numbers of traffic violations.

Responsibilities

The Traffic Control Technician will help control movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects by performing the following duties listed below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions.
  • Distribute traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern.
  • Manage day to day work zone set up, maintenance and tear down, meeting, or exceeding customer, state and company expectations.
  • Lift, carry and place up to 50 lbs. of traffic cones to ensure the safety of the work zone.
  • Lift, carry, place, and assemble traffic control signs in the proper order to manage work zone traffic.
  • Keep equipment in trucks well organized and in working order.
  • Develop superior knowledge of work zone setup, design and professional flagging responsibilities and be willing to share your knowledge with teammates.
  • Direct movement of traffic through site, using sign, hand, and flag signals.
  • Warn laborers and drivers when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.
  • Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
  • Record license number of traffic control violators for police.
  • Give hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic.
  • Write and review maintenance and incident reports for on-site issues or concerns.
Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

  • Valid Drivers' License with good driving record.
  • 1 year experience
  • Knowledge and skillful implementation of federal and state regulations for work zone safety and traffic control.
  • Knowledge of manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD) guidelines and the translation of this to control traffic by using proper devices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites and the ability to abide by them.
  • 500 hours experience in traffic control flagging.
  • Basic understanding of construction job sites.
  • Ability to work nights, weekend and holidays if needed.

  • Compensation: You will be paid between $22-25/HR, based on experience.
  • Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with California labor laws, at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek.
  • Rest and Meal Breaks: You will be compensated for paid rest periods and granted unpaid meal breaks in accordance with California labor laws.
  • "At-will employment": Your employment with MasTec is "at-will", meaning either you or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice.
  • Schedule: Full time positions; Hours varies based on project needs
