Job summary

MasTec, Inc. is seeking a Laborer/Groundman to support outdoor OSP telecom construction in California, including FTTH installations, trenching, pole work, and equipment operation under supervision.

You are safety-minded, able to lift up to 70 lbs, and hold a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a DOT medical card. Climbing certification preferred for pole work; reading maps/diagrams is required. Overtime applies under California labor laws.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs
  • Ability to read maps, drawings, diagrams, and schematics
  • Climbing certification or related experience preferred (required for pole work assignments)
  • Overhead or underground outside plant fiber construction experience preferred
  • Knowledge of overhead materials, clearance codes, and network design preferred
  • Flagger certification preferred or ability to obtain it, as needed

Overview

As a Laborer/Groundman, you will support aerial and underground outside plant (OSP) telecommunications construction projects in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment. Work may include fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) installations, conduit and manhole construction, trenching, plowing, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), micro‑trenching, vacuum excavation, cable pulling and blowing, aerial construction, pole work, and drop installation, depending on project requirements and terrain.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Follow direction from the Foreman or Supervisor to complete field labor tasks safely and efficiently
  • Assist with shoveling, brush clearing, site cleanup, landscaping, vehicle washing, loading/unloading, and material handling

Compensation of $24-28 per hour, depending on the experience

Additional details:
  • Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with California labor laws, at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek
