Job summary

MasTec Communications Group in California is seeking a Traffic Control Technician to support construction sites. You will manage work zone setup, direct traffic, and ensure safety compliance on busy Barstow projects, earning $22-$25 per hour based on experience.

Responsibilities include installing signs, coordinating detours, recording incidents, and maintaining equipment. Valid driver’s license and MUTCD knowledge are required, with availability for nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• 1 year of experience in traffic control or related field.
• Knowledge of MUTCD guidelines and how to apply them.
• Understanding of work zone safety regulations and procedures.
• Experience with flagging and traffic control equipment.
• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays when required.

• Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions.
• Distribute traffic control signs and markers along the site in a designated pattern.
• Manage day-to-day work zone setup, maintenance, tear down, meeting or exceeding expectations.
• Lift, carry, and place up to 50 lbs. of traffic cones to ensure safety.
• Lift, carry, place, and assemble signs in the proper order to manage traffic.
• Keep equipment in trucks organized and working.
• Share knowledge of work zone setup and flagging responsibilities with teammates.
• Direct movement of traffic using signs, hand, and flag signals.
• Warn laborers and drivers about signals not being heeded to prevent accidents.
• Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
• Record license numbers of traffic control violators for police.
• Assist with signaling clearance for reverse flow in one-way traffic.
• Write and review maintenance and incident reports on-site.

Responsibilities

TheTraffic Control Technicianwill help control the movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects by performing the following duties listed below.

In addition, you will:

• Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions
• Distribute traffic control signs and markers along the site in a designated pattern
• Manage day-to-day work zone set up, maintenance, tear down, meeting or exceeding customer, state, and company expectations
• Lift, carry, and place up to 50 lbs. of traffic cones to ensure the safety of the work zone
• Lift, carry, place, and assemble traffic control signs in the proper order to manage work zone traffic
• Keep equipment in trucks well-organized and in working order
• Develop superior knowledge of work zone setup, design, professional flagging responsibilities, and be willing to share your knowledge with teammates
• Direct movement of traffic through the site, using signs, hand, and flag signals
• Warn laborers and drivers when approaching a vehicle that fails to heed signals to prevent accidents and injuries to workers
• Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites
• Record the license numbers of traffic control violators for the police
• Give a hand marker to the last driver in line-up of one-way traffic for the flagger at the opposite end of the site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic
• Write and review maintenance and incident reports for on-site issues or concerns

Qualifications

About You:

• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• 1 year of experience
• Knowledge and skillful implementation of federal and state regulations for work zone safety and traffic control
• Knowledge of the manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD) guidelines and the translation of this to control traffic by using proper devices and techniques
• Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites and the ability to abide by them
• 500 hours of experience in traffic control flagging
• Basic understanding of construction job sites
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed

Compensation of $22-$25 per hour, depending on the experience.

Additional details:

• Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with California labor laws, at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek
• Rest and Meal Breaks will be compensated for paid rest periods and granted unpaid meal breaks in accordance with California labor laws
