Job summary

AWP Safety in the United States is seeking a Traffic Control Technician/Protector to set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control devices and to guide road users safely through work zones.

You will operate a company vehicle, maintain flagger stations with STOP/SLOW paddles, and provide on‑the‑job training. The role offers competitive pay, benefits, paid training including ATSSA certification, and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

  • TCT Certification or 2000+ hours required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in temporary traffic control, utility, or construction preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office and CRM systems).
  • Must follow safe workplace practices.
  • Valid driver’s license without suspension or revocation.

Responsibilities

  • Drive company vehicle and transport equipment and team members safely.
  • Effective radio communication with team on site.
  • Follow all safety procedures and practices.
  • Notify supervisor of safety issues or incidents.
  • Complete required training within the timeframe set by management.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to Protector.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Set up, maintain, and remove Advance Warning Signs, Channelizing Devices, and other traffic control devices according to Federal, State, and/or Local Temporary Traffic Control Guidelines and Temporary Traffic Control Plans for simple and intermediate complexity work zones.
  • Maintain a Flagger Station by standing and controlling road users through the use of hand signals with a STOP/SLOW Paddle.
  • Drive a company vehicle to transport equipment, trailers, and team members to and from work sites safely and in a timely manner. May also pull lightweight trailered equipment.
  • Effective radio communication with team members on work site.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and practices.
  • Notify Supervisor of any potential safety issues or incidents.
  • Achieve organizational required training within timeframe established by. Project Manager or Facility Manager.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to Protector
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Traffic Control Technician (TCT) Certification or 2000+ verifiable hours required.
  • High School Diploma or GED completion required.
  • Prior experience preferred in temporary traffic control services, utility industry, or construction industry preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office products and customer relationship management systems.
  • Must be able to follow safe workplace practices.
  • Valid Driver’s License void of suspension or revocation.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to successfully handle the physical demands of this position, which include the following:

  • Hours of operation may vary due to staffing needs.
  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Frequent exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites including high noise level in the work environment.
  • The position may work in outside conditions that include inclement weather, not limited to heat, cold, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Position lifts or carries objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects.
  • Position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
