Job summary

SpiveyServices in Virginia seeks a Traffic Control Superintendent to oversee daily traffic control operations, ensure crews perform safely and in full compliance, and serve as the primary field liaison between project managers, clients, and the traffic control team.

You will lead scheduling, crew coordination, trainings, and quality assurance across multiple sites, review plans, enforce safety protocols, and respond to emergencies with urgency and professional communication.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in traffic control or roadway operations.
• ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor certification or ability to obtain.
• Strong knowledge of VWAPM and VDOT temporary traffic control standards.
• Experience leading field crews or teams.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean MVR.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and respond to after-hours needs.

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise, and support Traffic Control Supervisors and crews across multiple job sites.
• Conduct daily field checks to ensure proper setup, safety, and equipment standards.
• Train, coach, and mentor staff on VWAPM, VDOT, and company procedures.
• Assist management in evaluating crew performance and development needs.
• Coordinate daily schedules, crew assignments, and equipment distribution.
• Ensure work zones are set up, maintained, and removed per project requirements.
• Lead emergency and short-notice response deployments.
• Review job plans, Rapid Plan designs, and customer requests before deployment.
• Enforce all safety protocols and conduct spot safety audits.
• Communicate schedule changes, road conditions, and project updates to crews.

KeyResponsibilities:

• Participateinsafetymeetingsandreinforcesafetycultureacrossteams.
• Serveastheprimaryfieldpointofcontactforcustomers,inspectors,andinternaldepartments.
• Communicateschedulechanges,roadconditions,andprojectupdatestocrews.
• Provideclear,documentedfeedbacktomanagementregardingprojectprogressandpersonnelneeds
• Overseefleetandequipmentusage,ensuringpropermaintenanceandreadiness.
• Reportonequipmentfailures,shortages,orreplacementsneeded.
• Ensureproperinventoryofsignage,cones,attenuators,andotherworkzonematerials.

QualificationsRequired:

• Three(3)tofive(5)yearsofexperienceintrafficcontrol,roadwayoperations,orsimilarfieldwork.
• ATSSATrafficControlSupervisor(TCS),VDOTintermediateworkzonetrainingcertificationorabilitytoobtain.
• StrongworkingknowledgeofVWAPMandVDOTtemporarytrafficcontrolstandards.
• Experienceleadingteamsorsupervisingfieldcrews.
• Validdriver’slicensewithacleanandacceptableMotorVehicleReport(MVR).
• Abilitytoworkoutdoorsinallweatherandrespondtoafter-hoursneeds.
